The Firebird was a pony car built by the Pontiac division of General motors which shared the same F-body platform as the Camaro.

The Firebirds, and the Trans-Ams ( a performance upgraded option ) were, for the most part, powered by various V8 engines of different GM divisions. While primarily Pontiac-powered until 1977, Firebirds were built with several different engines from nearly every GM division until 1982 when all Pontiac engines were dropped in favor of corporate units.

The Firebird, like the Camaro was produced from 1967 through 2002; and also like their Camaro couterparts, their are 4 generations of Firebird.

with the announcement of plans to release a fifth generation Camaro, many Firebird enthusiass hoped that their own favorite F-body would be rereleased. Unfortunatley, the Pontiac brand was shut down due to lack of sales, and GM was at a low point when it was dropped.
