How to perform the !Air mod on your LT1

Everyone is always appalled at how cluttered the engine compartment of 93-97 F-bodies is, so why not clean it up? One of the easiest ways of doing this is to remove the A.I.R system. The system's primary function is to pump air into the Cat to heat it up more quickly (For whatever reason). Basically, it's not necessary unless your state requires it for emissions.

Step 1

Remove the rubber hoses from the pipes coming from your exhaust manifolds.

Step 2

Remove the intake elbow all the way to the filter box (or whatever intake system you're running)

Step 3

Use a 10mm wrench/socket to remove the four bolts holding on your AIR pump on the driver's side below the ignition coil.

Step 4

Use a 7/8 (or metric equivalent size) wrench/line wrench to remove the nut in the exhaust manifold. If you can't get it to break (I couldn't) then take a sawzall or dremel and cut the metal pipe above the nut, then use a socket and breaker bar to break it loose.

Step 5

Repeat on other manifold

Step 6

disconnect all rubber hoses in the system, yank all the crap out, and disconnect the wiring from the wiring harness

Step 7

Install longtubes :)

Step 8

If you don't have longtubes (mine weren't delivered yet), then you can try to find a 5/8 pipe plug (I had no luck at 4 different hardware stores). Ended up just getting a M22-1.5 oil drain plug (x2) from work (Autozone) for cheap, and plugging the holes in the manifold.
